What is included in a car service?

liam • Aug 11, 2017

GB Autotech performs a thorough service that covers every aspect of the car. Covering all areas, it allows the mechanic to be clear on whether the car is safe for road use.

You should have your vehicle serviced on an annual basis just to ensure that all concepts of the engine are functional.

The entire vehicle is checked and categorised into eleven sections in a full car service .

  • Engine:   We top up or replace the oil and coolant (and check for leaks), make sure the radiator works and all air filters are clean. In petrol engines, the spark plugs are often replaced.
  • Fuel: Filters are replaced and we check the fuel lines are visible and the fuel cap seals properly.
  • Drive System: The mechanic will make sure that the clutch and gearbox are working and fluids will be topped up if necessary.
  • Electrical:  The starter motor, horn and exterior and dashboard lights are checked.
  • Steering and suspension: Both are reviewed to ensure that they work efficiently. We look at the wheel bearings and do a shock absorber bounce test.
  • Exhaust – Look at the exhaust system and make sure that all components are present and that there are no leaks, unnecessary noises or excessive amounts of smoke.
  • Brakes – We inspect the pads, callipers, hydraulic system and pipes to make sure they are no leaks. The handbrake is checked and brake fluid topped up.
  • Tyres and Wheels – Tyre tread depth, size, pressure and balance are reviewed (including the spare!)
  • Vision – The front and rear windscreens are checked for chips, the wipers tested and the cleaning fluid is topped up. Mirrors and number plates are checked for visibility.
  • Internal – We check the seat belts, door hinges and door lock are working correctly.
  • General – Road tests will be carried out, and finally, the service light is reset to remind you in a year.

Should anything need repairing you will be informed to ensure optimum road safety.
